A magazine is a recurring publication whose publication intervals exceed one day.
What's a magazine?
Magazines are usually similar to newspapers, but the information they provide is different, while in newspapers breaking news are what is most important, magazines tend to go deeper. Sometimes they are more diverse news and others more specific, because of that we can find such variety of topics.
Magazines allow us to reach our public on a regular basis in order to communicate what we want to say regarding any subject. In addition, due to their simple binding, they are the ideal printed product to read wherever you want.
What is saddle stitched binding?
There are several types of binding for magazines, but the most common and used is sadddle stitch binding.
Stitched binding consists of binding all pages of a publication with 2 or 4 thread staples, as required. It is a low-cost type of binding and the best way to print magazines and save money if that's what you're looking for.
Saddle stitching is one of the most suitable methods for magazine printing, although there are some limitations in the number of pages, as it requires a minimum of 8 pages and a maximum of about 96 pages. If you have a publication of more than 96 pages, you will need to use another binding method, different from saddle-stitching, for example softcover binding, where your product will then have a spine and the sheets will be bound in a different way. This limitation also depends on the type of paper you choose, because if the paper is thicker, the maximum number of pages will decrease.
In order to get a proper finishing, the type of machine used to apply the staples is extremely important. There are many types of stitchers on the market, some of which are more manual and others fully automatic. For a magazine and catalogue printer, this is essential, because the final quality depends on it.
Let's take an example. We have observed that by using simpler machines in the final finishing of your magazines, if you put the magazines on the table without pressing them, they look like somewhat curved; instead, by using more automatic and complex machines, such as our ST-450 (you can see our machine in the video on this page, it is a video made in our facilities), this does not happen, the product is perfect. That's why it's important to know where your product is going to be printed, so that the final result is not unexpected.
Modern saddle stitch binding methods allow very high production volumes and unbeatable quality from the first to the last copy, which explains why not only price is important, but above all "the company behind the price", and by that we mean its policy in terms of quality, service and R&D investment.
